The Golden Circle

I spent a day exploring the Golden Circle, a ring of natural beauty in the southern part of Iceland!

First stop was at Thingvellir National Park, a beautiful park filled with Iceland's unique landscapes and the famous rift between the tectonic plates. The Silfra Fissure is a water filled crevice between the North American plate and the Eurasian plate. This water is the clearest and cleanest water in the world and so clear that it's possible to see over 70 ft down! This water, however, is not warm at all. It's 2 degrees Celsius and everyone who was going snorkeling had to wear head to toe covering to stay dry and warm. The only part that wasn't covered was the mouth for the snorkel... which wasn't a problem because my mouth went numb within seconds of touching the water. It was worth it for the amazing view!

Afterward, I visited Geysir and watched the hot spring shoot water 30 ft in the air. It was amazing! Although I didn't get it on video, the progression from the steamy water to bubbling to the moment right before the powerful rush of water is beautiful.

I also visited Gulfoss Waterfall, there's not much to say except that it was big and gorgeous.

Finally, the day ended with visiting the Secret Lagoon, like the famous Blue Lagoon, but a natural hot spring instead of a manmade one. It's very peaceful and not as tourist-filled. I would highly recommend it to anyone who can get out to it.

There were also beautiful northern lights, but some experiences can't be captured on camera!

That's all I have to say!
